Then the eleven disciples went away into Galilee, to the mountain which Jesus had appointed from them. When they saw Him, they worshipped Him; but some doubted. And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen. Matt 28:16-20
I love this piece of Scripture greatly because, through it, I realised that Christianity is a ‘commission’. If anybody fail to discover this truth and consequently fail to fulfil it, he may only deceive himself that he is working from God though he may not.
There is a difference between ‘a Temple worker’ and an Ambassador of Christ’. The people of the Old Testament (the Levites) were workers of God who were in-charge of His Tabernacle. No other person was qualified to offer this service unto God. They served as priests and offered sacrifices and made intercessions for the people. If anyone wanted to have any dealings with God, he had to first come to these Levites. These ones took care of the Tabernacle, burnt offerings, made atonements; and prayed for the other eleven tribes. Every other person had to keep a certain distance between the Tabernacle and himself least, he will die. These Levites were not permitted to do any other work apart from the work of the Tabernacle. This is what is referred to as ‘working for God’.
Unlike them, we are in the times of the Acts of the Apostles. We are in the last days, Scripture says:
‘And it shall come to pass in the last days, says God, that I will pour out of My Spirit on all the flesh; your son’s and your daughters shall prophesy, your young men shall see visions, your old men shall dream dreams. And on My menservants and on My maidservants I will pour out My Spirit in those days; and they shall prophesy. I will show wonders in heaven above and signs in the earth beneath: Blood and fire and billows of smoke. The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the coming of the great and awesome day of the Lord. And it shall come to pass that whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.’ Acts 2:17-21
We are not workers of God but His ambassadors. As ambassadors, though we are in this world, we are not of this world. We have been sent here on a mission. Thus, we are the ‘sent ones’. Therefore, it doesn’t matter whoever you are: An apostle, prophet, pastor, evangelist or teacher, you are to go. This commission is not only limited to a certain group of people but whoever has believed or will believe in Christ.
To His disciples (of which you are one), Jesus said: “Peace to you! As the Father has sent Me, I also send you.” John 20:21. Again, He said: And other sheep I have which are not of this fold; them also I must bring, and they will hear My voice; and there will be one flock and one shepherd. John 10:16
Jesus already had His sheep (Israel), but He needs other sheep from the rest of the world to also come into His sheep fold. This makes you and I ‘a sent group of people’ into the world to bring in sinner
During the revival outbreak of Acts chapter two, the apostles did not put up a mega church building to accommodate all the over five thousand souls who came to believe in the Lord after the day of Pentecost. Rather, they all became the disciples who went about proclaiming the gospel. This is the commission of God given to us. Therefore, as a preacher, if you are only comfortable in your church building without going out into the field to harvest souls for Christ, you missing the mark.
We are no longer in the era of ‘Temple workers’ but the ‘fishers of men‘ God is not happy with you sitting in your office while sinners perish outside there
'Go therefore and make disciples of all nations baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always even to the end of the age.' Amen. Matthew 28:19-20
‘Go therefore…….’ is a command. Some came to evangelize to therefore you also have to go. If you only occupy yourself with Temple works then you have missed it because God does not dwells in temples made with human hands. he dwells in the hearts of regenerated men.
Acts 17:24-25 declares that;
“The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples built by human hands. And he is not served by human hands, as if he needed anything. Rather, he himself gives everyone life and breath and everything else.
